Martha McCulloch-Williams (1848-1934), was an American author, poet and essayist. She was born Susan Martha Ann Collins (also known as "Smack"), near Clarksville, northwest Tennessee, in Montgomery County. She never attended school but she was educated at home by her older sisters. After her parent's deaths, she settled in New York with Thomas McCulloch-Williams. There she published short stories, serials, poetry and essays in several magazines, including Harper's Monthly, Harper's Bazaar, and McClure's. She published her first book Field Farings: A Vagrant Chronicle of Earth and Sky in 1892. Her other works include: Two of a Trade (1894), Milre.
